Saint Teresa, the first women to be declared a Doctor of the Church, was best known as a reformer of the Carmelite order (along with Saint John of the Cross).

Interesting Facts:
Saint Teresa described the stages of spiritual growth as different rooms in an Interior Castle (which is also the name of her most popular book). She was a mystic, who wrote much on the subject of metal prayer.
For two years she had visions of Jesus. She felt that the presence of Jesus, in bodily form, was with her. Although she felt that Jesus was beside her, she never actually saw Him.
