A World Away by T. J. Smith:
This is a book filled with adventure that is written mainly for a Catholic audience and will most likely appeal to adolescence and adults alike. It is a pretty good read. Due to its otherworldly dimension, it will more than likely be compared to the Narnia books. This can be an uneven comparison just for the fact that the Narnia series and A World Away were written at different times for different generations. Please don’t misunderstand me, the Narnia books still hold up well because they are brilliant. But there is still room for updated adventures that will hold the interest of today’s young reader.
The story is about a young man named Dan Clay who accidentally enters into a parallel world. This world was made for fifty men who were too evil for hell, so they ended up in a universe which also happens to mirror our own. I don’t want to give too much away, but you can tell already that this book is not for young children.
The author says that there are two more books in the works, and he has already finished a good portion of the writing for the remaining books. This is good news, considering the first book does leave you in a cliffhanger. Although you many not get the closure that you want, this book is worth the journey.
