The last post was about my son's love for the Indiana Jones movies, and how he pretends to be the Catholic Indy. Beyond the Indiana Jones movies, there are some terrific action/adventure books that have a Catholic feel to them. The Alfred Kropp books are an example within this genera for children 11 to 13 years of age. The first book is called Extraordinary Adventures of Alfred Kropp, and the second is Alfred Kropp and the Seal of Solomon. There will also be a third book coming out later this year. These books are for the more mature child, and I will definitely wait a few of years before letting my son read them due to some of the violent content. The books are centered around a fifteen year old who gets caught up in such adventures as the quest for King Arthur’s Excalibur sword, and battling 3,000 year old demons let loose from King Solomon’s ancient vessel. I would have loved these books when I was thirteen.
